This is the first of eleven national laments in the book of Psalms. 44:1-8 Israel's Glorious Past The word save is used in vs. 3, 6, 7. They did not win the land of Canaan nor their great victories in the past by their own power but by God's. 19:7 To cry, tsaaq, violence is implicitly a cry to God for help from violence. The weak party cries to God for relief from suffering (Ex. 8:12; 14:10; 22:23, 27; Deut. 22:24, 27).
